To all you Australian ladies: it is now official! Smashbox has landed on our shores (and in our stores)! Ying and I are very excited to bring you back all the latest Smashbox hype next week after the launch event at Kit Cosmetics. We will be meeting Smashbox's global makup artist, Robin Flanagan, to steal all those beauty tips & tricks! So lookout for that one!

Moooree OPI swatches! Here is I'm Not Really a Waitress.

The photo above seemed a bit bright so here's a few more shots that capture the true colour (no flash & flash):

I don't own many red nail polishes as I've always opted for pink, but this is really stunning on. It's a very deep red - kinda reminds me of eating raspberries and blueberries :) I can see this becoming one of my winter favourites!

To other news, I hope everyone had a thoughtful ANZAC day. To see all those involved in the war marching our streets (including my dad, whom I'm very proud of) was incredibly moving.

Awards:

We would like like to thank littomokaa  giving us this award ^.^

mish-mash

Hi Ladies,

So just wanted to do a quick update on a few random things that I've been doing. First of all, here's a swatch from one of the OPIs that I got -

Ind-ia Mood for Love

I really love this colour and this bright pink shade is always my go-to colour when I'm going out because it works well with my skin tone and adds a bit of colour to my usually black or nude outfits. Also I find that a lot of people tend to tone down their nail polish colour during winter (which seems appropriate because obviously everything tends to be that much bleaker) but for me I love to have some bright summery colours on my nails because it adds a little beauty to my day :)

Also, just wanted to show everyone what I got for my mum for Mother's Day (on the second sunday of every May for the slackers out there :P) It's a Treader Drum Pouch in Ivory and a Treader Mini Purse also in Ivory. I am absolutely in love with the drum pouch - love the style, the colour and the fact that it's Mimco! The strap is adjustable and sits just above the hips.

And lastly, I recently bought some contacts online and they just arrived. They are Impressions contacts in Blue and from afar, I think they're quite subtle. I usually wear clear contacts so it's nice change having a different eye colour. Why not fake what genetics couldn't give me ... hehehe. Just be careful where you buy your contacts from ladies. I buy mine from Clearly Contacts which is a Canadian based Contacts/Glasses e-tailer and they have a very good reputation.

So that's all for my little post, and I'll be back soon with a vlog - possibly on curling hair or quick beauty tips.

a modern touch

Hello guys,

Just a quick post today on a tutorial I did last night on a modern version of the french nail. I've gone for a darker colour, Russian Navy (one of my favourites!) but you can use any colour you like.

I'm pretty hopeless when it comes to french nails so I'm a big fan of guides. Instead of a straight line french, I've gone for a pointed tip using DIY guides I made from some self-adhesive ring-file-binder labels (you know those ones that stop your pages from ripping out of the file?).  This a really easy way to get perfect lines, and its a lot cheaper too!

So here is my very first YouTube vid! Apologies for the bad quality (my mac camera isn't the best).

A few tips:
• If you happen to smudge the polish, just clean up the area with a cotton tip and polish remover.
• I find it best not to use a base coat as the stickers tend to peel off any nail polish underneath, and it also is easier to remove mistakes
• Wonky lines? Don't worry, you can always cover it up with the glitter line
• Want a more natural look? Try going for a white tip and coat full nail with a transparent pink for a traditional french look
• Want more drama? Add more rhinestones to nails or go for a brighter colour!

Surprisingly, touch ups are really easy. Just start your brush above the silver line and sweep towards the top and apply a fresh topcoat.

The photo above doesn't give this colour justice - its a lovely dark purply royal blue in the light :) very stunning

Speaking of nice coloured nail polish, OPI has now released their soft shades for 2010 and they are incredibly cute and ALL PINK!

Isn't that Precious? Pink-a-Doodle I Think in Pink It’s a Girl

I have my eyes on Pink-a-Doodle, but I also need to keep reminding myself that I just bought a lot of OPI.

Hope you guys like the vid :) More to come soon!

Talk to you all soon

lip primer review, opi swatch & ootd

Good afternoon :)

Jenni here; I have a lovely 6 hour uni break today so I thought I'd like to make an update.

Today I've got a few things I'd like to share. Firstly I've been really excited about my new opi so here is another swatch for you: Lunch at the Delhi. It is a bright coral and I LOVE it :) Its one of those colours that make you feel happy when you just look at it. Perfect for the Autumn months! Apologies for my fingers - must go buy some hand cream to stop my cuticles from drying out.

and closer up...

Last week I was browsing in Kit Cosmetics and I walked out with a lip primer from Pop Beauty. I have a few lipsticks but most don't last on me very long so I was really looking forward to trying this out. Here's the packaging:

So cute!

Pop Beauty describe it as:
"Perfect your pout before applying your favorite gloss or lipstick. Lip Magnet Primer creates a plumped up, smooth canvas to “hang onto” any lip product and stay true to colour. Stop signs of aging by filling in fine lines and preventing colour feathering. It’s your perfect primer and treatment in one – Vitamins A and E will nourish your lips and provide antioxidants while Omega oils act as a natural plumper to add volume for luscious lips."

INGREDIENTS: Vinyl Dimethicone / Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, C12-15 Alkyl Ethylhexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Myristyl Lactate, Ceresin, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Ozokerite, Polyethylene, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Octyldodecanol, Microcrystalline Wax, VP/Hexadecene Copolymer, Tocopheryl Acetate, Quaternium-90 Bentonite, Methyl Nicotinate, Fragrance, Caprylyl Glycol, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Oil, Capsicum Frutescens Fruit Extract, Caffeine, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Propylene Carbonate, Phenoxyethanol, Niacin, Hexylene Glycol, Yellow 5 Lake, Red 6.

So it works as a plumper as well as a primer.

Here's how it went:

Did it work? Not really. I had the idea that it'd work similar to long lasting lipstick creating a "tattoo effect" but it felt like it did the opposite. My lipliner, that would normally last ages, felt like it would come off. With my lipstick, I'd say it stayed on a little longer than normal, but only a little. And after a coffee? Lipstick was on my cup, not my lips :(

Downside? Aside from that, when you open it, it is very fragrant, I was told it was chilli and capsicum, and not very nice. I can't smell it while I'm wearing it, so that's okay. The plumper ingredient is also known to cause a stinging effect on some people, as it is designed to "irritate" the lip in order to "plump" it. I personally haven't found this a big issue. Every now-and-then I can feel a tingling sensation, but even that is not very noticeable.

Upside? Packaging is five stars, which probably made me buy it. When applied on the lips, it is quite light, so lipstick colour tends to show up more vibrantly which is good. It is also makes a good base for a nude lip as it fills in small cracks quite well.

Overall? Not too enthusiastic about this one and I probably won't buy it again,  not for AU $29 anyway. 2/5
♥♥♥♥♥

And lastly, here's my OOTD:

I'm wearing a beaded owl shirt by Blue Juice that I bought from Live, new Sportsgirl jeans in grey and new Wittner "sin city" boots in black (which are sooo comfy!)

Break's almost over - back to uni.

Till next time,

as mother nature intended ... almost!

TA DA! We finally got our act together and did our pretty pictures. I have to admit that we look pretty good ... hehe. Remember, the aim of the look is to highlight your natural beauty and maybe help get rid of the flaws that you don't like. For me, I have big cheeks so I just contour it slightly with blush to make it look higher and I hate my eyelashes so I just add a ton of mascara!

Also, these pictures are good because it shows what basic undertone we have. I have a more olive undertone whereas Jen has a more pink undertone so depending on what your skin is like, you're probably going to follow either mine or Jen's recommendations more.

Feel free to ask away,

oh my, opi!

Hello again, Jenni here,

Firstly, I'd like to say thank you to all our followers! Blogging is not the easiest thing to get started, so we are really grateful for all your support :)

So this lovely package was waiting for me at my post office:

Take a look what we got!!

1. Pink of Hearts 2 (below left)
2. A Dozen Rosas (below right)

3. Dancing in the Isles
4. Cozu-Melted In The Sun

5. Suzi Sells Sushi By The Seashore
6. Nomad's Dream

7. Bling Dynasty
8. Mauving To Manhattan

9. I'm Not Really A Waitress
10. Lunch At The Dehli

11. I'm India Mood For Love
12. Atomic Orange

13. Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

So this is my growing collection of OPI:

And looking very much forward to sharing some swatches with you in the future :D

So, I couldn't wait to try it out, so I put on #4 Cozu-Melted, and it is divine! Very metalic and shimmery and in the perfect shade of pink, almost salmon :D In the shade it looks more pink than below.

And a close up of the shimmer:

Love love love it. And I cannot tell you how incredible this seche vite top coat is. I heard recommendations and I had previously used OPI's rapid dry top coat which didn't work too well in my opinion, so I thought it'd be a good time to try. Nothing worse than chipped or smudged nails. Seche Vite, however, is AH-MA-ZING! It dry so fast and intensely hard so if you haven't tried it: get it - it's definitely worth the US$5.

Hope you enjoyed this haul. Tell us your fav OPI colour! Leave a comment!

More swatches coming soon!

love

online orders & procrastination

Ok, so I just wanted to do a quick post to explain why our 'neutral' pics haven't been uploaded yet ... needless to say, it's a combination of uni work (mid-sem exams) and pure procrastination. :( but bear with us because we will have it up sometime.

Speaking of procrastination, we also made a huuuuuge Cherry Culture order online whilst avoiding doing anything remotely related to study, so we should be doing a Makeup Haul post as soon as it arrives.

Watch this blog for our next post which is all about OPI!

PS. Cherry Culture is a fantastic online makeup/beauty retailer that sells really popular US brands such as NYX and Jelly Pong Pong at a really good price. Check them out at www.cherryculture.com

foundations & fundamentals

Hello lovely readers,

Jen and I thought that our first post should definitely be an introduction into what we wear everyday ... our 'neutral' looks so to speak. Firstly though, We'd just like to say welcome to our beauty blog. It's been a long time in the making and after much procrastination we can't believe that it's finally beginning to take shape. We wanted to start this blog because Jen and I both love makeup and beauty related things but being uni students, we don't set aside a lot of money to spend on products. This means that our tips, ideas and recommendations are usually based on what we can afford and hopefully give you help and inspiration into being beautiful regardless of how much you want/have to spend.

Secondly, introductions!

In a few words: my name is Jenni and I'm Australian, blonde, tall and white (and lack the capacity to tan); I am studying engineering; love love love cute, sparkly things (like this); and I have a passion for art, photography, anime, shopping and cooking. So before this turns into a personal ad, let me move on to what we really are talking about here: makeup!

The photo above shows a few basic things that get me through every day:

1. Innoxa Satin Sheen Natural Finish Makeup in Buttermilk
2. Chi Chi Real Mineral Foundation (loose power) in Light
3. Covergirl Lash Exact Waterproof Mascara
4. NYX Blush in Natural

...all of which I find do there job incredibly for the price I paid them. Oh that's another thing I love: sales

Being not so popular and somewhat expensive compared to other jewels in my makeup bag, I stumble across Innoxa from a free full-sized sample I scored from Ying and I'm hooked. It has a really good medium coverage which is perfect for work and everyday and lasts the whole day without primer or powder. It's Australian too so I definitely recommend it.

Chi Chi loose powder is great in summer by itself and works well over my liquid foundation to give a full coverage. Down side is the colour is a little too dark/orange for me which kinda give me the effect of a bronzer if I don't use it sparingly. But that's okay, seeing as I bought it for around $10 and it helps hide my albino appearance ;) On the contrary, I have my eye on everday minerals foundation, which stock a large range of foundation colours, so if I persuade my bank account into another shopping spree, I'll post a review about that.

I've gone through many a mascara including a few Maybelline, Innoxa, Naponleon and Bourjois, but my favourite favourite is Covergirl's Lash Exact Waterproof. I find it doesn't smudge compared to others and it and holds curl really well!! So I will proudly defend this mascara in front of DiorShow any day.

NYX is my favourite cosmetic brand because their eyeshadows are fantastic. Can't go wrong with this blush either- and it comes in so many colours!

So that sums up my must have basic items.

My turn! My name is Ying and like Jen, I was doing engineering but then I changed to commerce! In hindsight, it was probably because I wasn't as blonde or as tall or as smart as Jen :( I love shiny things (you can't get me away from the Swarovski stores), shopping, cupcake making/eating and debating ... or getting into a really good argument. I can't live without my hair straightener and basic makeup.

From the photo above they are:

1. Revlon Photoready Liquid foundation in Golden Beige (no 008)
2. Bourjois Matte Mousse foundation in Beige (no 83)
3. Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara in Black
4. Poppy King Lipstick in Pink Sinner

I have only recently started using Revlon Photoready because I'd heard such good reviews about it and it was on sale at Myer ... I haven't looked back and am absolutely in love with it :D. It glides on so smoothly and gives a great medium coverage that lasts all day. I use it almost everyday now whereas before I used the Bourjois foundation a lot. However, although the Boujois foundation gives great coverage, I find that it's quite thick in comparison to the Photoready so I only use it when I've given my skin a few days to rest so it doesn't clog my pores.

The Masterpiece mascara is definitely high on my list of recommendations. Its quite an old formula but it is a classic. Being asian, my eyelashes are unfortunately very short and stubby and I find that this mascara give me the length and curl that makes my eyes look that bit larger :)

And I have to say LipstickQueen is a fantastic label for lipsticks/liglosses or any of your lip needs. It was started by a woman called Poppy King who is just so passionate about lipsticks. The colour range is huge and I've found with my Pink Sinner that its really creamy and looks au natural ... it also doubles as a blush for those of you with teeny clutches and even teenier budgets!

So that's it for our first post and we hope that it's given you insight into what we beauty addicts put on every morning. List your favourite products in the comment box and give us some hints as well. We'll be posting a video on our natural looks soon so watch this space and subscribe!
